New Delhi: India’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh has been postponed from August 2025 to September 2026 after a mutual agreement between the two cricketing boards. There were reports that the tour might be called off entirely due to the ongoing security situation and political unrest in Bangladesh. However, BCCI and BCB have decided to defer it to next year.

The BCCI on Saturday announced that it has mutually agreed to postpone the white-ball series from August 2025 to September next year. India are scheduled to play three ODIs and as many T20Is in the white-ball series. The matches were scheduled to be played from August 17 to 31 in Chittagong and Dhaka this year.

“This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams,” BCCI said in a release.

BCB has stated that it is looking forward to welcoming the Indian team to Bangladesh next year and that a revised schedule of India’s tour of the country will be shared in due course. As per the BCCI release, the tour has been postponed due to the scheduling inconvenience for both teams. However, it is understood that the BCCI was unsure about the tour owing to the security situation in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has been in a political turmoil since a civil unrest led to the ouster of former president Sheikh Hasina after her government was overthrown in the country. BCCI reportedly wanted to send the Indian team to the country only after a stable government is in place to take care of the law and order situation in the country. The elections in the country are expected to take place next year.
