Jaipur: Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has given a big statement about the Marathi-Hindi controversy in Maharashtra. During a conversation with reporters in Jaipur, he said that India is a country full of diversity, where issues arise from time to time about language, religion and culture. But these disputes are not new or big things. He believes that such social issues also lead to solutions and the country moves forward.
Gehlot said that India’s greatest strength is its diversity. Unity here is strong only when people know to walk together with their differences. He did not consider the Marathi-Hindi controversy as more serious and said, “Such discussions continue to happen, but it is necessary that the path of dialogue and understanding should be adopted instead of politics or violence.”
Every community would have their own agenda
Gehlot said, every language and community have their own interests and agendas. Some people give it political color, and some create social disputes. But we must remember that all this is part of India’s democracy and diversity. He appealed to the people to make the language a medium of dialogue, not a dispute and respect each other’s cultural identity.
Gehlot’s statement came at a time when the controversy over Hindi and Marathi language in Maharashtra is deepening. On this occasion, he also advised politicians to make rhetoric responsibly and said that “violence should have no place in the name of language.
Controversy erupted due to MNS action
The Marathi-Hindi dispute began when Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists beat up a shopkeeper in Mumbai just because he did not talk in Marathi. After this, there was a feeling of insecurity among non-Marathi speaking people in Maharashtra. Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi also condemned the incident and said that Marathi should not open schools, do not fight.
