Ahmedabad: Team India recently won a total of 588 medals in the 21st edition of the World Police and Fire Games 2025 in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. According to the competition website, the Indian team finished third in the overall table, while the US (1,354 medals, including 569 gold, 433 silver and 352 bronze medals) finished second and Brazil (743 medals, including 266 gold, 246 silver and 231 bronze medals).
India will host this tournament to be held in 2029 in Ahmedabad. Recently in June, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that Gujarat had acquired the bid for hosting this prestigious international event.
Chief Minister Patel described this development as a “big step” towards making Ahmedabad a “sports capital of India”. The CM of Gujarat posted on X, “Pal of pride for Gujarat! India has won the bid of 2029 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Ekta Nagar after a comprehensive bid presentation before the WPFG Federation in Birmingham, USA. Mr. @AmitShah shows the visionary leadership and is a big step towards making Ahmedabad the sports capital of India! ”
According to the official WPFG website, it is a law enforcement, fire fighters and an Olympic style competition for athletes representing officers of corrections, border security, immigration and customs offices around the world. The event to be held every two years includes more than 60 games as the official Games.
The game is operated by the California Police Athletic Federation (CPAF), host city and the Board of Directors.
The first edition of the competition was held in 1985 in San Jose, California.
