Calling this nationwide general strike against the government and its “anti-workers, anti-farmer and anti-people” policies
Bharat Bandh 2025 News in Hindi: A platform of 10 central trade unions and their affiliated federations has called for a common nationwide strike on 9 July. People from different parts of the country, Sangh and Dal are participating in Bharat Bandh.
This nationwide general strike has been called against the government and its “anti-workers, anti-farmer and anti-people” policies. The protest is expected to involve 25 crore workers working in various fields including banking and insurance sector white -collar employees, employees of offices and shops, employees of transport and hospitality, Gig workers, public and private sector industry units and farmers.
Almost complete bandh has been seen in Kerala, shops and shopping malls remained closed in Kottayam in support of ‘Bharat Bandh’. In Odisha, members of the Khoradha district unit of the Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) blocked the national highway in Bhubaneswar.
SITU President of Khoradha district Suresh Rautre told ANI, “The Modi government is only supporting Adani and Ambani, not of the workers. We are demanding a minimum of Rs 9000 per month pension …”
A bandh was also organized in Telangana. The ruling party Telangana Rashtra Samithi has supported this protest, where Telangana has been the most affected state of this strike. The Chief Minister’s son KT Ramarao will join this protest in Hyderabad.
In West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given her support to the bandh. She will hold a sit -in near the Gandhi statue in Central Kolkata in symbolic support.
According to ANI, a member of the unions of the left parties entered Jadavpur railway station and blocked the railway track.
In Siliguri, the drivers of government buses were seen wearing helmets inside the bus as a precaution.
A bus driver in Jadavpur, Kolkata said, “These people are saying the right thing (referring to ‘Bharat Bandh’), but we have to do our work. We are laborers, so we support (‘bandh’) … We are wearing it (helmet) for safety, so that if something happens, we will be safe.”
A heavy police force was deployed near Jadavpur 8B bus stand and the bus drivers were wearing helmets for security.
According to the ANI report, sectors such as public transport, government offices, public sector units, banking and insurance services, postal operations, coal mining and industrial production are expected to be affected under ‘bandh’.
Organizations of leftist parties organized a foot march in Jadavpur, Kolkata and participated in ‘Bharat Bandh’.
Meanwhile, members of the RJD student branch in Bihar blocked the railway tracks at Jehanabad railway station in support of ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by a joint platform of 10 central trade unions and their colleagues.
There were reports of market closure in many districts of Punjab and Haryana. In Mumbai, all major agriculture and fruit markets remained closed, as well as cargo transporters. According to a report by Wion, despite being a BJP -ruled state, there was an almost completely bandh atmosphere in Assam. According to Wion, around 300 farmer organizations in Karnataka have been involved in opposition to Bharat Bandh.
