Contaminated Toddy Leads to Hospitalizations

A tragic incident occurred in the Kukatpally region of Hyderabad, Telangana, where a 43-year-old man lost his life and 15 others were hospitalized after allegedly consuming adulterated toddy. The deceased, identified as Seetharam, was a daily wage laborer working as a mason. He reportedly drank the toddy at HMT Hills on the evening of July 7.

Later that night, Seetharam experienced severe vomiting and diarrhea. His condition deteriorated rapidly, prompting his family to rush him to Arundathi Hospital in Dundigal. Unfortunately, he was later transferred to Gandhi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after examination. Following this incident, Seetharam's wife filed a complaint at the KPHB Police Station, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Authorities are currently investigating the matter. In addition to Seetharam, at least 15 other individuals who consumed toddy from the same establishment were hospitalized, with one person reported to be in critical condition. The remaining patients are receiving treatment at Ramdev Hospital in Hyderabad. An excise official stated, “A total of 15 people were hospitalized after consuming toddy at a shop in Kukatpally. They were shifted to Ramdev Hospital for treatment. One person is in serious condition while others are stable and under observation.”

In response to the incident, former Telangana Minister and BRS leader Niranjan Reddy visited the victims at the hospital, calling for stringent action from the state government against the sale of adulterated toddy. BJP MP Eatala Rajender also met with the affected individuals in the emergency ward, urging the government to address the issue of adulterated toddy and demanding compensation for the family of the deceased.
