JEE Main 2026: Every year, the National Testing Agency conducts several examinations. NTA is also responsible for the JEE Main exam. Passing the JEE exam is necessary for admission to BTech or BArch courses of IITs, NITs, and other engineering institutes. While passing the next stage of the JEE exam, i.e., JEE Advanced, is also necessary for admission in IIT, many institutes also give admission on the basis of JEE Main result only. Every year, an IIT is given the responsibility of setting the JEE Advanced paper. The JEE Advanced paper will be set by IIT Roorkee in the year 2026.

1- General category candidates must have a minimum of 75% marks in 12th or top 20 percentile of the board (65% for SC/ST) for admission in NITs, Triple ITs, and CFTIs. Candidates get 6 attempts for a maximum of 3 consecutive years (in January and April sessions).
2- There is no age limit for JEE Main 2026. Candidates of any age can apply, as long as they have to pass the 12th class in 2024, 2025, or appear in 2026. However, they may have an age limit for admission in institutes like NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.
3- 12th pass dropper candidates are also eligible for the JEE Main exam in 2024 or 2025. Foreign nationals and OCI/PIO candidates can apply with the marks prescribed by AIU. Candidates are advised to check the notification before applying for JEE Main 2026.
Example: If a candidate has given the 12th exam for the first time in 2024, then he can appear for the JEE exam in 2024, 2025, and 2026. Candidates appearing for improvement in 12th marks are also eligible for this exam, provided they can submit the final result in 2026.
Can foreigners also appear for the JEE Main exam?
Citizenship: Indian citizens, OCI (Overseas Citizen of India), and PIO (Person of Indian Origin) cardholders can apply for JEE Main. Foreign nationals are also eligible, but they must meet the equivalence criteria prescribed by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
State Code Eligibility: Candidates have to choose the code of the state where they have passed class 12th. This is required for the state quota in NITs.
Application Process: Candidates have to apply in online mode, requiring Aadhaar card or other valid identity proof (passport, voter ID, etc.).
