Firemen were scrambled in Los Angeles overnight after a tunnel collapsed in Wilmington, trapping 31 people inside.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) rushed to the scene following reports of the collapse, which is believed to have severed communication lines.

Officials say the incident occurred deep beneath the 1700 block of South Figueroa Street, with the actual collapse taking place as far as six miles from the tunnel's only access point.

In response, the LAFD deployed a massive operation, including all of its Urban Search and Rescue teams, to try and locate and free the trapped individuals. All 31 workers have now been recovered and accounted for.
