New Delhi: Lionel Messi is on a jaw dropping goalscoring run in Major League Soccer as he once again delivered a match winning performance for Inter Miami. The Argentine legend scored both goals in the first half of Miamis 2-1 win over New England Revolution on Wednesday night continuing his electrifying form since returning from the FIFA Club World Cup. Messi breaks MLS record with four straight braces The 38 year old maestro has now scored multiple goals in four consecutive MLS matches a feat never achieved in the leagues history. Messi began the streak in late May with a brace in a 4-2 win over Montreal. He followed that up with two more in a dominant 5-1 victory over Columbus before the league paused for the Club World Cup. Brief Club World Cup exit fails to slow Messi down Inter Miami briefly shifted their focus to the FIFA Club World Cup where Messi scored once in four matches before the team was knocked out by Paris Saint Germain in the round of 16. Despite that disappointing exit Messi wasted no time reigniting his MLS form scoring two more goals in Miamis 4-1 win over Montreal on Saturday. Eight goals in four games unmatched in MLS history With his latest brace Messi has now scored eight goals in his last four MLS appearances. No player in league history has achieved this milestone since the MLS was founded in 1996. The Argentine icon has been unstoppable in front of goal setting new benchmarks in the American league. First goal comes after defensive mistake Messi opened the scoring in the 27th minute at Gillette Stadium capitalizing on a defensive error from New England. With surgical precision he unleashed a left footed shot from the center of the box to give Inter Miami the lead. Second goal comes from classic Busquets to Messi combo Eleven minutes later Messi struck again latching onto a sublime through ball from Sergio Busquets. The former Barcelona teammates linked up seamlessly as Messi curled a left footed finish past Slovenian goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic doubling the advantage before halftime. Inter Miami climb to fifth in the Eastern Conference With the win Inter Miami moved up from sixth to fifth in the MLS Eastern Conference standings. They now have 35 points and trail league leaders FC Cincinnati by seven points but have three games in hand due to their Club World Cup campaign. Messi chasing Golden Boot despite fewer matches played Messi has now scored 14 goals in 15 MLS matches this season putting him just two behind top scorer Sam Surridge who has featured in six more games for Nashville. Given his current form Messi is a strong contender for the MLS Golden Boot despite the reduced game time.
