If you have filed your income tax and are thinking that your work is done, then this news is important for you. The Income Tax Department does not process your return until you verify it. If the verification is not done within the stipulated time, then your ITR may become invalid.
If you have filed the return, then do the ITR verification immediately
This year, the last date for filing income tax return is 15 July 2025, and so far, more than 96 lakh ITRs have been filed, out of which more than 92 lakh have also been verified. Earlier, 120 days were available to verify ITR, but now this time has been reduced to only 30 days. So if you have filed the return, then verify it immediately.
How to verify ITR?
Now the question is how to verify the ITR? The answer to this is very simple. You can do the verification in a few minutes with the help of your mobile, bank account, or demat account.
Do ITR verification with Aadhaar OTP, this is the easiest way
If your Aadhaar card and income tax portal are linked, then you can verify ITR with the help of the OTP sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. This is the fastest and easiest way, and most people use it.
Do the verification by generating the EVC code from the bank account
You can also generate an Electronic Verification Code (EVC) through your bank account. This facility is available through internet banking. If you use net banking, then this method is also very easy for you.
Facility for users with a demat account also
If you invest in the stock market and you have a demat account, then you can verify your ITR by generating the EVC code from it. This method is especially beneficial for those investors who are associated with the market.
Some banks also provide EVC facility through an ATM.
Some banks also provide the facility to generate an EVC code through an ATM. The code is sent to the registered mobile number. However, this facility is not available in every bank, so first, get information from your bank.
You can also do direct verification through net banking
If you have a net banking facility, then you can verify your ITR by logging directly on the e-filing portal without any code. This method is also fast, safe, and easy.
Verification with Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
In some cases, such as company returns or for those with annual income of more than ₹ 50 lakh, verification with a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is necessary. For this, there should be a valid DSC token.
Offline method – By sending the ITR-V form
If you are not able to do the verification digitally, then you can print and sign the ITR-V form and send it to the CPC office in Bangalore. This form should reach there within 30 days of filing the return. Its processing usually takes 2-3 weeks.
Return will not be considered valid without verification
You have filed ITR. This is a good thing. But until you verify it, the Income Tax Department will not process it, and your return will be considered invalid. So do not delay and verify ITR immediately using any of the easy methods mentioned above.
