New Delhi: The BCCI is yet to get a go-ahead signal on the part of the Indian Government before officially green signaling the participation of the national team in the Asia Cup 2025. In spite of the fact that the BCCI is the official host of the tournament the decision is made by the Government of India and is likely to be issued shortly. Asia Cup 2025 is said to be commencing on September 5 yet there are doubts whether India will feature. The reluctance is due to the recent military tensions in May this year which was after Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Consequently whether the Indian team will participate or not is critical in making all major decisions that currently surround the tournament. BCCI awaits Government approval before Asia Cup 2025 According to a report released by Cricbuzz the BCCI is likely to notify soon officially about the presence of India in the Asia Cup 2025. Sri Lanka or UAE may probably host the tournament with the final say. There is doubt however whether India will play against Pakistan in the tournament especially with the military tensions that exist between the two nations in particular. The final decison will be made soon and it will highly be based on the stand of the Indian government so far as pursuing course of action with Pakistan is concerned on the current geopolitical backdrop. A decision on the Asia Cup is expected in the next couple of days and it depends on the BCCI position on the continental championship in which arch-rivals Pakistan with whom the country was engaged in military conflict not too long ago will be involved the report read. ACC urges BCCI to clarify stand on Asia Cup As there are less than two months before the commencement of the Asia Cup event the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) spearheaded by the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has urged the BCCI to make their stand clear regarding the participation of India in the event. The ACC has voiced its concern that the lingering uncertainty was not aiding commercial and marketing preparations to the tournament. “We have been informed that in the absence of this information their ability to plan effectively allocate resources and execute their campaigns is significantly constrained. In addition to highlighting the challenges being faced by them the media rights partner has highlighted obligations under the Agreement which commence 60 and 90 days prior to the commencement of the 2025 Tournament. Our sponsorship rights partner TCM have outlined the commercial concerns associated particularly in terms of timelines required for effective monetization and activation planning” ACC wrote to BCCI. But in case the Indian government refuses clearance to play in the Asia Cup then BCCI can think of having a tri-series in the same window. There have already been postponements including India scheduled to play Bangladesh in their own backyard including the ODIs and T20Is.
