New Delhi. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued notice to Google and META in connection with the investigation of cases to online betting app. The agency alleges that these two companies worked to promote betting apps and gave prominence to their advertisements and websites on their digital platforms.
Call for questioning on 21 July
According to sources, Google and Meta are alleged to promote these betting apps and place an advertisement and websites of online betting from their platforms. Now the ED has summoned the representatives of both companies for questioning on 21 July.
ED in action against betting
This is the first time in this whole matter when a big tech company working in India is being directly accountable in cases like betting. This action of ED is part of the ongoing comprehensive campaign against online betting, in which the role of many big names and digital platforms is being investigated.
This step of the ED shows that the investigation is being done on a large scale. Earlier too, many film stars and social media influencers have come under investigation in the matter of promoting illegal betting apps.
Betting business in the name of ‘skill based game’
Let us know that the ED is closely examining a large network of online betting apps. Many of these apps are actually involved in illegal betting by calling themselves ‘skill based games’. It is believed that a black earning of crores of rupees has been made through these platforms, which was sent here and there through complex hawala channels to protect them from grip.
Case filed against many celebrities
Last week, the Enforcement Directorate registered a case against 29 people, including famous actors, TV hosts and social media influencers. They are accused of promoting illegal betting apps. Celebrities whose names are recorded in the ED’s enforcement case report (ECIR) include big names like Prakash Raj, Rana Daggubati and Vijay Devarakonda. It is alleged that these people were given huge amount in exchange for promoting these apps.
