The monsoon season is good, but it can prove to be dangerous for electronic gadgets at times. When it comes to laptops, even a drop of water can cause huge damage. If your laptop has been soaked in rain or water has fallen on it, do not panic. But take the right steps immediately. A small negligence can increase your expenses by thousands of rupees. Here's how you should handle a laptop after getting wet in the rain, and what mistakes you should avoid.

First of all, shut down the laptop immediately.
If your laptop is on and has been soaked in rain, first of all, shut it down immediately. The power can cause a short-circuit with the water inside, which can damage the motherboard, screen, or battery.

Remove the power source and accessories.
If the charger, USB drive, headphones, or any external device is connected, remove it immediately. If the battery is removable, remove it as well.

Dry the laptop to dry the water.
Wipe the laptop with a towel or clean cotton cloth. Place it upside down on a flat surface so that the water inside can drain out. Do not turn it on for at least 24 to 48 hours.

Do not make the mistake of drying it with a hair dryer or heater
Many people make a big mistake by using a hair dryer or a device that gives hot air to dry the laptop. This can melt the circuits inside the laptop. Natural air or room temperature is the best way.

Use the method of rice or silica gel.
Take a large plastic bag and keep the laptop in it. Keep rice or silica gel pack with it. This helps in absorbing moisture. Keep the laptop in this condition for at least 48 hours.

Do not make the mistake of opening it yourself.
If you are not a technical expert, then do not try to open the laptop yourself. This can also void the warranty, and the defect can increase further.

Take it to the service center as soon as possible.
If the laptop is not working even after following all the above tricks, and there is a burning smell inside, then immediately take it to an official service center or a good technician.

How to protect a laptop in the rain
Keep the laptop in a waterproof bag or sleeve case during the monsoon. While traveling by public transport or bike, keep a plastic cover. Keep the laptop facing forward in the raincoat so that water does not fall directly on it.
