Himesh made his Bollywood debut as a music composer in 1998 with the film Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya starring Salman Khan Kajol Dharmendra and Arbaaz Khan. After this his music in films like Hello Brother Kurukshetra Jodi No. 1 and Humraaz caught the attention of the audience. He got his first Filmfare nomination for Humraaz. However real success came in 2003 with the film Tere Naam whose music album became the highest-selling album of that year.
