As actor Suriya celebrated his milestone 50th birthday on July 23, 2025, a sea of fans gathered outside his residence in Chennai to mark the occasion. Videos from the early morning celebration quickly spread across social media. It shows the actor’s overwhelmed reaction as chants of his name filled the street.
In one of the widely shared clips, Suriya is seen in a simple white outfit, stepping out to greet the crowd. He smiles, folds his hands in gratitude, and waves to his fans as they cheer loudly from the packed street. A particularly heartfelt moment came when Suriya took out his phone and recorded a selfie video from a higher floor, showing the sheer volume of admirers assembled below. “Love you all," he says in the video, blowing a flying kiss to the cheering crowd.

Suriya, who made his acting debut with Nerrukku Ner in 1997, has enjoyed a diverse filmography over the decades. While his recent outing, Kanguv,a in 2024, in which he played both a warrior and a bounty hunter, underperformed with Rs 106.25 crore worldwide against its Rs 350-crore budget, he bounced back with Retro this year. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film earned praise from critics and grossed Rs 96.97 crore globally.
Currently, the actor is filming Karuppu with RJ Balaji, where he will once again portray dual roles. He has also signed a yet-untitled film with Venky Atluri, which will mark his debut in Telugu cinema.
On Suriya’s 50th birthday today, the teaser of Karuppu was released by the makers. It opens with power power-packed avatar of Suriya. The scene keeps on shifting. It is set against the village carnival. A voiceover adds gravitas, as Suriya makes a compelling entrance.

Karuppu, starring Suriya in the lead, is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures and written and directed by RJB, with cinematography by GK Vishnu and music by Sai Abhyankar. It is planned for release this October during Diwali.
