A dangerous accident on a film set left this legendary actor fighting for his life. The situation was so serious that doctors had even declared him clinically dead for a few minutes. But what followed was nothing short of a miracle.

The incident happened during the shooting of ‘Coolie’ one of Amitabh Bachchan’s most iconic films. In a fight scene with actor Puneet Issar Big B mistimed a fall and hit the edge of a table resulting in a severe internal injury. The shoot was immediately stopped and he was rushed to the hospital. His condition worsened rapidly and he slipped into a coma. The entire nation was gripped with anxiety as updates from the hospital dominated headlines daily.
When Big B shared about the tragic incident
While recalling the life-threatening accident during the shooting of ‘Coolie’ Amitabh Bachchan has often spoken emotionally about how close he came to death. The incident occurred in 1982 during a fight sequence with Puneet Issar when Amitabh mistimed a jump and landed badly on a corner of a table. The internal injury was so severe that he began bleeding internally and collapsed shortly after.
He was rushed to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital where his condition rapidly deteriorated. Amitabh slipped into a coma and his pulse had stopped for a few moments effectively making him medically dead. He later revealed in interviews that he has no memory of the critical days that followed only waking up weeks later to see his family and doctors around him.

Amitabh mentioned at that time Doctor H.S. Bhatia played a crucial role in saving his life as he suggested operating. Amitabh has repeatedly credited Dr. Bhatia for not giving up during that darkest hour and performing critical procedures that revived him. It was a long and painful recovery but the prayers of fans across the nation and expert medical care brought him back from the brink.
