ViaTerra Spencer Street Mesh pants review: Ready for anything

When you’re out in the market looking for riding gear, you can either get carried away spending a lot of money on imported brands, or end up buying something on a budget and realise later that it doesn’t offer safety at all. You could also end up with gear that does not fit well — too loose or tight.

However, if you spend enough time doing some research, or just read through this, you will come up with a brand name called ViaTerra. They have gear that’s tested, lasts, and can be stitched to size. I personally use their gear, and when ViaTerra said they had the Spencer Street Mesh pants, I was all in.

ViaTerra Spencer Street Mesh pants review: Construction

The Spencer Street Mesh pants use Cordura Nylon 6 shell on all impact zones and use the company’s proprietary CrossTechFlow for optimum airflow. The armour is designed to sit closer to the body, and trousers are offered with two inseam sizes. One can either look up at these terms or take our word: it’s well ventilated.

The trousers get SasTec Level 2 armours for the knees and hip, and the highlight of these German armours is that they are soft and flexible, but harden upon impact. It has a provision for a tailbone protector as well, which can be purchased separately.

ViaTerra Spencer Street Mesh pants review: Why do we recommend it?

There are many reasons for this. The trousers have an adjustment on the calf area for the armour to fit snug. The trousers have zips on both sides for better accessibility for boots, while they can be worn inside or over the boots. They are precurved for a better fit and have a belt to ensure they fit around the waist properly.

There is one drawback, in my opinion, and that’s with the pockets. They are vertical, so when the phone’s in the pocket, it rests just above the kneecap and has a tendency to knock it, giving you a jitter. They are not waterproof, and that’s completely okay because ventilation is key.

That begs a question: if they are to wear out and I need another pair, will I pick the ViaTerra Street Mesh pants again? The answer is yes!
