With India still trailing and England eyeing a series win, Day 5 promises to be a gripping conclusion at Old Trafford.

Day 4 of the fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford saw plenty of action, shifts in momentum, and individual brilliance as both sides continued their battle for control in the crucial contest. After trailing by over 300 runs, India ended the day with a strong fightback, thanks to a solid unbeaten partnership between Shubman Gill and KL Rahul.

Earlier in the match, England had won the toss and elected to field first. India posted a competitive 358 in their first innings from 114.1 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed 58 runs with 10 boundaries and a six, while Sai Sudharsan impressed with 61, hitting seven boundaries. England’s bowling attack was led by Ben Stokes, who produced a vintage spell to claim 5 wickets. Jofra Archer complemented him well with 3 wickets, while Liam Dawson and Chris Woakes chipped in with one each.

In response, England produced a commanding batting performance. Joe Root led the charge with a magnificent 150-run knock, continuing his rich form. Captain Ben Stokes was equally impressive, scoring 141 runs as the duo helped England reach a mammoth 669 before being bowled out in 157.1 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the Indian bowlers with 4 wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar bagged two apiece.

With a daunting 311-run deficit, India’s second innings began on the worst possible note. Chris Woakes struck twice in the very first over, removing both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan without scoring, leaving India reeling at 0/2. However, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul rose to the occasion, digging in and displaying great composure.

As the day progressed, Gill grew in confidence, playing elegant strokes en route to 78 not out. KL Rahul supported him brilliantly with a fluent 87*, anchoring the innings and ensuring no further damage before stumps. Their unbeaten partnership brought some much-needed stability and hope for India heading into the final day.

With India still trailing and England eyeing a series win, Day 5 promises to be a gripping conclusion at Old Trafford.
