With the case now closed, both Lakshya and Chirag Sen can turn their full attention back to their sporting careers as they prepare for upcoming international tournaments.
The legal cloud hanging over top Indian shuttlers Lakshya Sen and his brother Chirag Sen has finally lifted, as the Supreme Court of India quashed the FIR filed against them in connection with an alleged age-forgery case dating back to 2022. The decision brings an official end to the legal battle that involved the Sen family and Lakshya’s coach, U. Vimal Kumar.
The case stemmed from an FIR registered in December 2022 in Bengaluru, which accused the Sen brothers, their family, and coach Kumar of manipulating documents to fraudulently lower the players’ ages. The complaint, filed by a private individual, alleged that the motive was to gain eligibility for age-group tournaments and to secure government benefits. The accusations were based on documents obtained via the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
While the Karnataka High Court had refused to quash the case in February 2025, citing sufficient prima facie material to proceed, the Supreme Court intervened soon after, staying all proceedings. Today, the apex court fully quashed the FIR, delivering a long-awaited relief to the Sen family and their coach.

I had faith in the judiciary and am glad that it has brought clarity. My focus remains on badminton, and I’m committed to continuing my journey with full dedication.”
In a joint statement, the Sen family said, “This has been a challenging time for our family, but we always believed that the truth would come to light. We’re thankful to the Hon’ble Supreme Court for bringing closure to this matter. Lakshya and Chirag have always let their hard work speak for itself, and with this chapter behind us, our full focus is on supporting them as they continue to grow, compete, and make the country proud.”
Coach Vimal Kumar also shared his reaction: “I’m happy that the Supreme Court has brought clarity to this issue. Lakshya has consistently demonstrated great commitment and integrity, and now he can move forward with full focus on his game. I believe he will continue to make the country proud.”
