SSC Exam Protest 2025: SSC students and teachers protested in Delhi over widespread issues during the Phase 13 recruitment exam, including last-minute cancellations and technical failures.
SSC Exam Protest 2025: Widespread protests erupted across India on Thursday as candidates appearing for the SSC Selection Post Phase 13 recruitment exam voiced strong opposition to what they termed “severe mismanagement” by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). The demonstrations, led by aspirants and teachers, reached a peak at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar under the banner of “Delhi Chalo”, calling for urgent reforms in the examination process.
Chaos at Centres: Cancellations, Crashes, and Poor Infrastructure
The recruitment test, which began on July 24 and is scheduled to conclude on August 1, has been marred by a series of technical and administrative breakdowns. Candidates reported abrupt cancellations of scheduled exams, frequent server crashes, malfunctioning equipment, and mismanaged infrastructure.
Many students were allocated centres to sit their exams hundreds of kilometres away from home, often in remote or unsafe areas. In some centres, candidates alleged the presence of livestock around exam centres and claimed they were confronted with aggressive behaviour by private security guards when they attempted to raise complaints.
"Aspirants are being sent to far-flung centres, only to discover that the exam is cancelled. At some venues, cattle heads were kept on the ground floor while students were giving exams upstairs. Bouncers have been deployed to silence students who raise concerns. The mouse doesn't work, systems hang. This is what we're facing," a teacher from the protest said, as reported by news agency PTI.
During a recent meeting with SSC officials, candidates claimed the Commission acknowledged receiving over 55,000 complaints related to the Phase 13 exam.
"If there are 3 lakh students and 55,000 have registered issues, that alone speaks volumes. SSC-CGL, with 30 lakh aspirants, is scheduled to start from August 13. How will SSC manage that with these broken systems?" he said, as reported by PTI.
Vendor Controversy and Corruption Charges
One of the major grievances raised by protestors is the choice of private contractors to administer the exam. According to media reports, students claim that the SSC had awarded contracts to companies which were blacklisted in the past or had reputations for substandard service. This has brought in increasing demands for an independent investigation into the vendor hiring process and alleged irregularities in contract awards.
Police Crackdown Fuels Outrage
Protesters also accused police of using force against peaceful demonstrators. According to media reports, some students were detained, while others faced baton charges during protests at the SSC offices and at Jantar Mantar.
Despite the growing unrest, the SSC has not yet issued an official statement addressing the allegations or outlining corrective measures. With the high-stakes SSC-CGL exam set to begin on August 13, aspirants across the country are demanding immediate reforms to restore confidence in the examination system.
