BSNL's 5G service may be launched next month, in August. The company has made an important announcement for August on its official X handle, in which it has expressed its intention to improve the digital experience of users. The launch of the government telecom provider's 5G service may increase competition for private companies such as Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea. Since BSNL's services are usually more affordable than those of private providers, this may reduce the users of these companies. BSNL India's official X handle posted: "This August, BSNL introduces Next Level Digital Experience! Get ready for a game-changing digital journey with BSNL."

Monthly review meetings
The government has started efforts to revive BSNL and MTNL. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia told Parliament that for the first time in the Indian telecom sector, a review meeting was held for BSNL, which was attended by both the Union Communications Minister and the Union Minister of State.

Going forward, monthly review meetings will be held, which will be chaired by the Minister of State. Quarterly review meetings, however, will be chaired by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The company has been directed to increase its average revenue per user (ARPU). These review meetings will monitor mobile service innovation, decentralised decision-making, and circle-specific progress.

Meanwhile, Vi is in the process of launching its 5G service, which is now available in several circles. BSNL is working on improving its 4G service and is also preparing to launch 5G service. Despite these efforts, both companies are struggling to retain their customers, as many are moving to other providers. In June, Vodafone Idea (Vi) lost over 2,17,000 subscribers, while BSNL lost nearly 3,06,000 subscribers.

Currently, Vi has around 204 million subscribers, and BSNL has around 90 million subscribers. As a result, BSNL's market share has declined slightly to 7.78 percent from 7.82 percent, while Vi's share has also come down to 17.56 percent from 17.61 percent.
