National Film Award 2023: The 71st National Film Awards were announced on 1 August 2025 in New Delhi, in which the Gujarati film ‘Vash’ won two important awards. The film received the Best Gujarati film and Janaki Bodiwala received the Best Supporting Actress Award. Released on 17 February 2023, the film is directed by Krishnadeva Yagnik, and is a successful psychological thriller, which was later remade as ‘Satan’ in Hindi.
Success of ‘Vash’ in National Award
The story of ‘Vash’ revolves around Atharva and his family, who fall under the influence of a mysterious person Pratap’s black magic. Janaki Bodiwala played Arya in the film, and her brilliant performance impressed the audience. His emotional depth and acting in scary scenes deserved him the award. Actor like Hiten Kumar, Panchal and Hitu Kanodia also contributed well in the film.

Krishnadeva Yagnik, who is known for successful films like ‘Chhello Day’, gave a new direction in Gujarati cinema through ‘Vash’. The film was not only successful at the box office, but it also gave Gujarati cinema national identity. ‘Vash’ collected Rs 2.94 crore in 35 days and was also appreciated on the OTT platform.
