Lyon have announced the €8m signing of Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner (31). The USMNT goalkeeper has been immediately loaned out to MLS franchise New England Revolution. Turner’s loan deal includes a €3m option to buy. Turner signed for NFFC from Arsenal two years ago. He played 21 times for the Tricky Trees in all competitions before being loaned out to Crystal Palace for the 2024-2025 Premier League season.

Turner is therefore back with New England Revolution after spending five seasons with the New Jersey franchise between 2018 and 2022. Lyon previously tasked a lawyer to cancel the deal and negotiate with Nottingham Forest to try to reach an agreement where Turner would stay at the City Ground. Unfortunately for Lyon, their attempt to cancel the deal has been deemed unlawful and also ignored by NFFC owner Evangelos Marinakis.

John Textor had sanctioned the deal to sign Turner, but the American businessman is no longer in charge of Goneswho no longer wanted to recruit the 31-year-old after a transfer restriction was put in place and the club presented reduced budgets to avoid a Ligue 2 relegation.
