Dalhousie: In a significant milestone, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) has announced a profit of Rs 315 crore, marking the first time in its history that the board has achieved profitability. This announcement was made through a government notification dated August 1, 2025, signaling a remarkable recovery for an organization that has faced substantial financial challenges for years.
Congress representative Manish Sareen, from the Dalhousie Assembly constituency, attributed this success to the forward-thinking leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Sareen emphasized that this achievement is a testament to the Chief Minister’s dedication to implementing structural reforms, as part of his vision for a "Vyavastha Parivartan" (systemic transformation).
Sareen pointed out the stark difference between the board's past and its current status, noting that as of March 31, 2024, HPSEB was burdened with a staggering loss of Rs 3,742 crore. He remarked, “Transforming the board from such a significant financial deficit to a profit of Rs 315 crore in just one year is truly historic.”
He credited this impressive turnaround to the state government's strategic reforms, transparent governance, and robust financial management. “This achievement reflects effective governance and long-term planning. For the first time, the board is operating in the positive. The Chief Minister deserves full recognition and congratulations for this remarkable accomplishment,” Sareen concluded.
