The right-wing group, Sakal Hindu Samaj, received a notice from Mumbai Police's Bhandup unit on Saturday after it protested against the Marathi film, Khalid Ka Shivaji, online. The police notice read that the online posts made by the group against the film can incite communal hate and disrupt law and order in the city.

The Marathi film, Khalid Ka Shivaji, has been facing backlash from several right-wing organisations as it has been accused of spreading "false history". While one such organisation announced a social media protest against the film, the Bhandup division of Mumbai police issued its members a notice to not disrupt law and order in the city.

The right-wing group, named Sakal Hindu Samaj, expressed their disappointment over the film, Khalid Ka Shivaji, and stated that it was aimed at distorting history and "dividing the minds of Hindus". Members of the group also urged people on a WhatsApp group to protest against the film on social media and express their dissent.

Taking cognisance of the message, the Bhandup Police, on Saturday, sent a notice to the admin of the WhatsApp group, warning them of strict action if they decide to protest in the city. The police notice stated that such messages can disrupt the peace of the city and cause inconvenience to locals.

"We advise you to not engage in such acts henceforth. If such messages encourage unlawful activities in the city, then you will be held responsible and strict action will be taken," a part of the police notice read.

The Sakal Hindu Samaj members expressed their disappointment over receiving the letter against their social media protest. "Bhandup Police Station has sent a notice to #Hindutva Karyakartas for posting a protest on social media against the film "Khalid Ka Shivaji", which spreads false history and seeks to divide the minds of Hindus. @MumbaiPolice have completely surrendered to #Jihadi forces! Please stop sending such notices to those who are protesting through constitutional means (sic)," their post on X read.

Mumbai Police officials are yet to respond to the criticism by the right-wing organisation.

About Khalid Ka Shivaji

It is to be noted that Khalid Ka Shivaji was one of the few Marathi films that was selected for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year.

Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar had said that it was a moment of pride for Marathi cinema to presented on a global stage. "Khalid Ka Shivaji highlights the thoughts of young minds and their quest for identity in today's society," he had said.

Khalid Ka Shivaji tells the story of a boy named Khalid, who is isolated by his peers because of his religion, and that is when he finds inspiration from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
