NMPB Signs Two Landmark MoUs to Boost Conservation and Public Awareness of Medicinal Plants
The Ministry of Ayush advances India’s medicinal plant sector through two vital MoUs aimed at conservation, cultivation, and public education—strengthening the link between traditional knowledge and modern science.Highlights:Union Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav oversaw the MoU signings at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi.MoU 1: NMPB and IshVed-Bioplants Venture to conserve rare medicinal plants via tissue culture.MoU 2: Tripartite agreement among NMPB, AIIA, and AIIMS to establish a national medicinal plants garden at AIIMS, New Delhi.The initiatives align with PM Modi’s vision for a healthier, self-reliant India by 2047.Focus on public awareness, conservation, and evidence-based research.In a significant step toward conserving India’s medicinal plant heritage and promoting public awareness, two major Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed today by the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, in the presence of Union Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge) and Health, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi.The first MoUsigned between NMPB and IshVed-Bioplants VenturePune, aims to conserve and maintain the germplasm of rare, endangered, and threatened (RET) medicinal plants using tissue culture technology. The agreement focuses on developing advanced tissue culture methods and scalable protocols for cultivation, which will enhance the sustainable supply of RET category plants used in the Ayush sector.The second MoU, a tripartite partnership among NMPB, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), and AIIMS New Delhi, envisions establishing a national medicinal plants garden on the AIIMS campus. This initiative aims to enhance public awareness and promote knowledge-sharing on medicinal plants among patients, students, and healthcare professionals.Speaking at the event, Minister Prataprao Jadhav highlighted that the efforts are inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a healthier and self-reliant India by 2047. He emphasized that blending traditional wisdom with modern science is key to achieving this goal.These MoUs symbolize a concrete step toward evidence-based research, conservation, and enhanced engagement with the medicinal plant sector, reaffirming the Ministry of Ayush’s commitment to preserving India’s rich botanical legacy for future generations.
