When one thinks of a holiday abroad, it is easy to think of sun, fun and all-round relaxing vibes.

However, a recent list by Ibiza Summer Villas reveals the most overwhelming destinations to visit, analysing the 51 most-frequented cities in the world.

A variety of factors were examined to determine the rankings, including weather discomfort, crime date, tourist density and reviews.

The city taking the top spot was Paris in France, squeezing in a whopping 47.5 million tourists a year into just 105km² .

It is most often known as the "city of love", garnering a reputation as one of the most romantic spots on the globe.

However, the city is rife with crime, and due to its immense tourist density, it finds itself at the top of the list.

It is home to some of the world's most famous landmarks, with tourist hotspots including the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Notre-Dame.

However, due to all these locations having such a high volume of visitors, the atmosphere can at times seem overcrowded and stressful.

The Louvre, for example, has an average of 20,000 visitors a day, and getting a clear view of the Mona Lisa can be at times an impossible task.

One Tripadvisor reviewer described their experience visiting the famous artwork, where they called it a "let down", as there were "so many people crammed into a small room".

It isn't just the crowds that make Paris seem overly stressful. The costs are also to blame for this, as a lot of the food, drink and shopping places charge a hefty sum. Transport is also not cheap, and neither is accommodation, where a small meal in a local cafe might set you back at least €20 - each.

In second place on the list was Hanoi, in Vietnam. It scored the highest on weather discomfort, due to its humidity.

Shanghai scored third, with 300 million tourists per year. It also ranked highly on crime levels and the overall stressfulness of the experience.

At the other end of the spectrum, Dubai ranked as the most relaxing city to visit.

With a sprawling and efficient layout, its 17.1 million annual tourists are the most spread out, and it is becoming less crowded each year.

It also has one of the lowest crime rates out of all the destinations on the list.
