West Indies cricket team vs Pakistan national cricket team match: West Indies defeated Pakistan by 202 runs in the third and final ODI match at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Tuesday.
They came from behind and ended up winning the three-match ODI series 2-1. This bilateral series win against Pakistan has come after 34 years for the West Indies, as they produced an all-round performance in the series decider. The hosts put up a show with the ball as they bowled Pakistan out for just 92 runs in 29.2 overs, with Jayden Seales being the pick of the bowlers. This is Pakistan's 10th lowest ODI total in their history, and it was the fourth instance they have been bowled out for a total below 100 in ODIs against the West Indies.
Seales produced a memorable effort and picked up six wickets for just 18 runs in the 7.2 overs. While Gudakesh Motie picked up two wickets, Roston Chase also got a success with the ball.
Chasing a huge target, Pakistan were off to a horrible start as they were reduced to 8/3 in just the third over of their innings with Saim Ayub (0), Abdullah Shafique (0) and skipper Mohammad Rizwan (0) departing without any contribution. Babar Azam needed to deliver with a big impact but was trapped in front by Jayden Seales, who ended up taking the first four wickets.
Salman Agha was the top run-getter for the visitors, having scored 30 runs, whereas Mohammad Nawaz remained unbeaten on 23 runs.
Earlier, the West Indies posted an incredible total of 294/6 in their 50 overs after being put into bat first. Skipper Shai Hope led from the front and smashed a brilliant century, the 18th of his ODI career. He played a magnificent knock of unbeaten 120 runs in 94 balls on the back of 10 fours and five sixes. On the other hand, Justin Greaves played an unbeaten fiery cameo of 43 runs in just 24 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes.
For Pakistan, Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed picked up a couple of wickets each.
"It was very important for us to go deep. You want to set the tone in PP. I wanted to give the team the best finish as well. We have struggled at times. We had 270-280 in mind. We had wickets in hand and wanted to capitalise. Justin came in and played well. We had a pretty complete game today. I am extremely proud. We tend to stress the negatives. We have been creating history in the last couple of years. Really great to see the guys pulling this off," WI skipper Shai Hope said after being adjudged as the Player of the Match.
