Rajinikanth’s porter directed by Lokesh Kanagaraja made a splash at the box office. According to Caiknilk, it was the biggest opening of the superstar so far in all languages in India, which overtook the record of ₹ ₹ 60 crore of 2.0. The Tamil action film surpassed War 2 of Ayan Mukherjee starring Hrithik Roshan, Junior NTR and Kiara Advani, which domesticly earned ₹ 52.5 crore at a domestic level despite a strong Telugu occupancy of 77%. According to analyst Ramesh Bala, Coolie set a record of Kollywood by earning ₹ 170 crores globally.
Coolie got tremendous occupancy: 86.99%in Tamil, 92.10%in Telugu, 71.37%in Kannada and 35.66%in Hindi, Pondicherry (99%) and Chennai (97%) almost houseful. Despite the limited screening, the Hindi version of the film grossed ₹ 7 crores. According to @cine_infinity, it broke the record with $ 3.94 million in North America, including $ 2.9 million from the premiere.
