Zelenskyy Extends Independence Day Wishes to India, Seeks Support in Ending Conflict

Ukrainian President's Message on India's Independence Day

On the occasion of India's 79th Independence Day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy conveyed his greetings and expressed optimism regarding India's potential role in efforts to resolve the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.


In a tweet, Zelenskyy mentioned, "This week, I had a meaningful and open dialogue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where I was able to personally extend my best wishes for this significant day. We are hopeful that India will play a part in our endeavors to bring an end to the war, ensuring our freedom and sovereignty are safeguarded. I believe there is great potential for fruitful cooperation between Ukraine and India in areas such as science, technology, trade, and culture."



On August 11, Zelenskyy engaged in an extensive conversation with Prime Minister Modi, addressing crucial matters concerning bilateral relations and the ongoing conflict with Russia.


The Ukrainian leader expressed his appreciation for Modi's supportive remarks towards the Ukrainian populace, highlighting the significance of global unity during these trying times.


In a post on X, Zelenskyy shared insights from their discussions, stating, "I had a lengthy conversation with Prime Minister @narendramodi. We thoroughly examined all significant issues, including our bilateral cooperation and the broader diplomatic landscape. I am thankful to the Prime Minister for his encouraging words for our people."


"We have agreed to arrange a personal meeting in September during the UN General Assembly and to facilitate an exchange of visits," he added.


This dialogue occurs amidst escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with the United States and other nations seeking avenues to conclude the conflict. India has adopted a balanced stance, promoting a peaceful resolution while simultaneously enhancing its relationships with both Russia and Ukraine.
