In a twist no one saw coming, a popular and controversial Egyptian TikTok personality known as “Yasmin” has been unmasked — and she’s not who everyone thought she was. Authorities have revealed that behind the viral account was not a young woman at all, but an 18-year-old male student named Abdelrahman.

According to Gulf NewsEgyptian police launched an investigation after receiving numerous complaints about explicit dance videos posted by “Yasmin,” whose content was deemed offensive to public morals and societal values. The videos, which featured a veiled young woman dancing provocatively in revealing outfits, quickly caught the attention of authorities and sparked widespread concern.

After tracking the account, police arrested Abdelrahman in Sharqia Governorate, a city near the Nile River. What began as a morality case took a surprising turn when it was discovered that the person behind the videos was not a woman at all — but a teenage boy in disguise.

Authorities confirmed that Abdelrahman had been masquerading as a female TikToker, wearing a niqab to conceal his identity. During interrogation, he admitted to creating the character “Yasmin” to gain more followers and boost advertising revenue. The deception not only fooled his millions of fans but also shook his local community in Ezbet Al-Ansha village, where neighbors expressed shock over the revelations.

Abdelrahman, who lives with his divorced mother, was placed in custody for four days while undergoing a forensic medical examination. He was later released on bail of 5,000 Egyptian pounds (around $105 USD), but the case is far from over.

Egypt’s Ministry of Interior confirmed that the charges against him include impersonation and publishing content that violates public morality. His phone and social media accounts have been seized as evidence.

This case is part of a broader crackdown in Egypt on what authorities describe as “immoral content” on social media platforms. In recent years, several female TikTok influencers have faced arrest — and in some cases, prison sentences — for posting lifestyle or dance videos deemed inappropriate by prosecutors.

While Abdelrahman’s story may have started with a desire for fame and fast money, it has now sparked deeper discussions about digital ethics, gender presentation, and the boundaries of online expression in conservative societies.
