New Delhi: India’s T20 squad for the Asia Cup next month does not include Shreyas Iyer. Even though Shreyas Iyer hasn’t responded to this, his admirers are furious. On social media, Shreyas’ supporters have attacked everyone for this, including coach Gautam Gambhir and top selector Ajit Agarkar. Fans of Shreyas Iyer will be pleased with a report that has surfaced in the meantime. This rumor claims that the BCCI intends to choose Shreyas Iyer as the ODI team’s captain.

Only two days ago, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee revealed the Indian squad for the Asia Cup. After a year, Shubman Gill has rejoined this squad. In addition to making a comeback, Gill was appointed the team’s vice-captain, a role that had previously been held by Akshar Patel. Making Gill the vice captain when Akshar is present has many implications. Among them is the board’s desire to make Gill skipper of all three versions.

‘Dainik Jagran’ reports that the BCCI has great plans for Shreyas Iyer. In ODIs, Iyer is seen as Rohit Sharma’s replacement as captain. This has been discussed both formally and informally. The BCCI is not prepared to assign any one player to be the team’s captain due to the Indian team’s hectic schedule.

The Test team’s current captain is Shubman Gill. He is also leading the battle to succeed Suryakumar as the Indian T20 team’s captain. The Indian squad never stops playing cricket. The board has proposed having two distinct leaders in order to manage the workload. Gill is thus unable to serve as captain for all three versions. There is a catch, however, and it has to do with Rohit Sharma.

Shreyas Iyer is thought to be able to skipper India in the October ODI match against Australia. It is contingent upon Rohit Sharma’s future, however. The article claims that Rohit would be questioned on this matter after the Asia Cup. The ultimate captaincy selection won’t be made until after this.
