Punjabi Actor Jaswinder Bhalla Passes Away At 65

The Punjabi film and theatre community is in mourning following the sudden passing of beloved actor and comedian Jaswinder Bhalla. He died early on August 22 at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, at the age of 65. The cause of his death has not yet been revealed.

Bhalla’s last rites are scheduled for August 23 at 12 noon at Balongi cremation ground in Mohali. Family members, friends, colleagues, and fans from across the Punjabi entertainment industry are expected to attend and pay their final respects.

Jaswinder Bhalla was celebrated for his sharp wit, impeccable comic timing, and unforgettable punchlines. He gained widespread recognition in the late 1980s and early 1990s through his iconic comedy audio series Chhankata, which brought his humor to households across Punjab.

His film career began with the 2002 release Dulla Bhatti, and he went on to deliver memorable performances in hit films such as Carry On Jatta, Jatt and Juliet, Mr & Mrs 420, Vadhayiyaan Ji Vadhayiyaan, and Sardaar Ji 2. His final film appearance was in the 2024 movie Shinda Shinda No Papa, alongside Gippy Grewal and Hina Khan.

The news of Bhalla’s death has left fans heartbroken. Social media has been flooded with tributes honoring his contribution to Punjabi comedy. Politicians and celebrities also expressed grief. Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa wrote, “The stage of Punjabi laughter stands silent today. Jaswinder Bhalla ji was a symbol of Punjabi wit, humour, and spirit. He turned simplicity into laughter and made generations smile. Waheguru ji bless his noble soul with peace.”
