There was a time when people used to play games to entertain themselves in their free time, but in today's time, the meaning of gaming has changed a lot. Now is a time when the purpose of gaming is not only entertainment but also to earn money. Due to this, there is a plethora of online gaming and betting apps in the present time. Due to the betting going on in gaming apps, some people are earning money, but it is also causing losses to millions of people.

According to government figures, more than 50 crore people in the country use online gaming apps. At the same time, every year, people in the country are losing Rs 20,000 due to gaming apps. Due to this, people's homes and families are getting ruined. After losing money, people also take wrong steps, such as suicide. In such a situation, the government has introduced the Online Gaming Bill 2025 to control the online gaming industry, which has now been passed in the Lok Sabha. But after the implementation of this bill, which gaming apps will be banned? This question is on everyone's mind.

'Real money' games will be banned.

Let us tell you that under this bill, a rule has been brought to regulate all types of online gaming apps and platforms, but the ban is being imposed only on "real money games", which is the main root of the problem. The government has classified the gaming industry into two types of games. The first is that in which real money has to be invested to play. In this, you get a reward, i.e., prize money in the form of cash, and it is deposited directly into your bank account. Many gaming apps like Dream11, Rummy Circle, MPL, My11Circle, MyTeam11, and Winzo come in this category. In these, victory or defeat is not based on your skill, but on the pattern created by the gaming company. In these games, betting is promoted in the name of the game. The government is banning the gaming apps coming into this category.

Relief to 'skill-based' games

On the other hand, the second category is of skill-based games, in which winning or losing depends on your ability, i.e., skill. You have to pay money to play these games, but there is no obligation to pay money. You can also play them completely free. In such games, you can upgrade guns, buy skins or participate in special events by paying money. On winning these games, you get rewards in 'coins' or 'points', and there is no transaction of money. Games like Call of Duty Mobile, BGMI, FreeFire, and Ludo King come in this category.

Which games will be banned?
The government has taken a tough stand on apps promoting betting in the name of gaming. In such a situation, under the bill, all types of betting games like Dream11, MPL, My11Circle, MyTeam11, Winzo, and Rummy can be banned. At the same time, there is no threat of a ban on multiplayer social games like Call of Duty Mobile, BGMI, FreeFire, and Ludo King. However, officially, the government has not given any information about whether the games will be banned or not.

The gaming industry is worth 2 lakh crores
The online gaming industry in India is worth Rs 2 lakh crores, generating revenue of Rs 31,000 crores every year. The government gets tax of Rs 20,000 crore from this industry. This industry is growing at a growth rate of 20 percent every year (CAGR) and it is estimated to double by 2028. In 2024, the number of people playing online games had reached above 50 crores, while this sector is providing employment to more than 2 lakh people directly and indirectly. After the implementation of this bill, it is estimated that the employment of lakhs of people will be in danger.
