Mumbai. A case of digital fraud has been reported from a government employee of Hingoli District in Maharashtra (Maharashtra). According to the report, the message on WhatsApp came to the message on WhatsApp and a loss of about Rs 2 lakh was made on WhatsApp. A person who became a victim of cybercrime received a message on WhatsApp from an unknown number with an invitation to be married on 30 August. It was written in the message, ‘Welcome. Must come to the wedding. 30/08/2025. Love is the master key that opens the door to happiness. ‘ Below it was a wedding invitation to resemble a PDF file.

According to the report, it was the Android application package (APK) file, which was being sent as a wedding invitation. This file was created to make a dent in users’ phones and steal sensitive data. As soon as the victim clicked on the file, cyber criminals reached the data and stole Rs 1,90,000. A case has been registered against unknown person in Hingoli Police Station and Cyber ​​Cell Department. A similar scam of marriage invitation came out last year when many people lost their money due to this.

How is this fraud
This scam begins when a person is sent a wedding invitation to a person on WhatsApp. Once clicked, the APK file is downloaded in the phone, after which cyber criminals can monitor the activities of the victim. They pretend to be the owner of the phone using the data present in the phone and can cheat further by asking for money from people. Himachal Pradesh Cyber ​​Police issued a warning last year, in which people were advised to be vigilant and do not download the files received from unknown sources.
