A gunman began firing through church windows at children at a catholic school in Minneapolis, killing two people and injuring 17 others - 14 of them being children. Two children aged eight and 10 were killed in the shooting as they sat on pews, Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says.
The shooter was armed with a shotgun, a rifle, and a pistol, O'Hara said. He described it as an "incomprehensible" act of cowardice.
There is "no active threat" in the area now, a city official says. The shooter was in his 20s and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The shooting took place during a school-wide Catholic mass for students in kindergarten to eighth grade.
US President Donald Trump says he has been "fully briefed on the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota".
Taking to Truth Social he added that "the FBI quickly responded and they are on the scene. The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!"
