8th Pay Commission: New details about the 8th Pay Commission are continuously emerging. According to a media report similar to the 7th Pay Commission some allowances may be scrapped this time as well. If this step is taken it can impact the salaries and perks of government employees.
If certain allowances are removed employees should not face a direct loss. To compensate basic pay or other benefits may be increased. So far the government has not made any official announcement but employees and pensioners are awaiting clarity.
8th Pay Commission Allowances
In the 7th Pay Commission the government had abolished several smaller allowances and merged them into bigger categories. This had reduced the overall number of allowances making the pay system easier and more transparent. A similar move is expected under the 8th Pay Commission.
According to media reports allowances like travel allowance special duty allowance and small regional allowances as well as certain departmental allowances may be discontinued. However there is no official confirmation from the government yet.

What Are Terms Of Reference?
Employee unions say the 8th Pay Commission will not only make changes to allowances but could also bring improvements in dearness allowance (DA) pensions and other benefits. The complete picture will become clearer once the government issues the Terms of Reference (ToR) in the coming months.
