Hollywood stars Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, and Rooney Mara have joined as executive producers of a new film about a Palestinian girl, Hind Rajab.
The film, The Voice of Hind Rajab, tells the heartbreaking story of the six-year-old girl killed by Israeli forces in Gaza last year. Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania directed the movie. She will present it at the Venice Film Festival on September 3 and later at the Toronto Film Festival.
Kaouther Ben Hania is an award-winning director. Her 2023 film Four Daughters earned an Oscar nomination. Her 2020 film The Man Who Sold His Skin also received an international nomination.
The new film shows the final moments of Hind Rajab. In January 2023, she got trapped in a car with her family in Gaza City. Israeli soldiers opened fire, killing her and her relatives.
The film uses real recordings of phone calls between Hind and Red Crescent volunteers. Those calls shocked the world when they surfaced.
After the attack, The Washington Post, Sky News, and Forensic Architecture investigated the case. They found Israeli tanks in the area and bullet marks on the family’s car, challenging Israel’s claim that no troops were present.
Other big names supporting the film include producers Dede Gardner, director Alfonso Cuarón, and filmmaker Jonathan Glazer. UK’s Film4 and Saudi-owned MBC Studios also back the project.
The film has already gained global attention for its powerful political message.
