Glamorgan closed their One Day Cup campaign on a high with a commanding seven-wicket win over Leicestershire at Sophia Gardens, thanks to an unbeaten century from Asa Tribe and a fine debut display from teenager Tom Norton.
Put in to bowl after skipper Kiran Carlson finally won a toss, Glamorgan's youthful attack struck early. Norton, just 18, removed Pakistan captain Shan Masood lbw for his maiden county wicket and went on to claim 3-41 alongside three catches. Fellow teenager Romano Franco finished strongly with 3-59 as Leicestershire were dismissed for 274 in 49.4 overs. Lewis Hill top-scored with 81, while Peter Handscomb (42) offered support before a sharp run-out triggered a late collapse.
In reply, Glamorgan made a brisk start through Eddie Byrom (23) and Carlson (29), but the chase belonged to Tribe. The 21-year-old Jersey batter compiled a fluent 131 not out, his second successive century, sharing a match-winning stand of 172 with wicketkeeper Will Smale (83*). The pair comfortably overhauled the target with 26 balls to spare, Tribe sealing victory with a boundary.
Despite the result, Glamorgan finish bottom of Group A, while Leicestershire end with two wins and a tie. Both sides, however, remain well placed in the County Championship promotion race heading into September.
Speaking afterwards, Norton reflected on a "surreal" debut:
"It was brilliant, stuff I'd dreamed about for a very long time. To get Shan Masood out was special. Hopefully I can kick on, get a contract, and keep learning."
Foxes head coach Alfonso Thomas admitted his side were short with the bat:
"We were probably 20 runs light. Glamorgan fielded well and Tribe showed there were plenty of runs in the pitch. The lads fought hard but we weren't good enough today."
