Margherita, Sept 1: Pradyut Bordoloi, the Nagaon MP and former MLA from Margherita, has launched a fierce critique of the BJP-led Assam government, labeling it a "syndicate government" overseen by a "Gang of four" ministers, although he did not specify their identities.
During a meeting with Congress workers in Margherita, Bordoloi accused these ministers of fostering a "syndicate culture" for their own benefit.
He stated, "The BJP is dominated by four ministers who operate syndicates to ensure their families prosper financially."
As the Assam Legislative Assembly elections approach, the Congress party is ramping up its efforts in the 83-Margherita constituency. At the Margherita Congress Bhawan, Bordoloi emphasized the need for the party to regain its influence in the area.
Reflecting on his loss in the 2016 Assembly elections to BJP's Bhaskar Sharma, he acknowledged that weak local leadership had diminished the Congress's presence in Margherita.
Bordoloi, who later won a seat from Nagaon, admitted that his absence from Margherita had negatively impacted the party's chances.
He remarked, "Yes, the Congress faced organizational challenges. The block president's performance was lacking. While the party's roots in Margherita are strong, I too was negligent and did not engage sufficiently with the community. We will now work to eliminate these obstacles and fortify the party's position."
Regarding potential alliances, Bordoloi confirmed that there have been no discussions with Raijor Dal to date.
He added, "We have not yet talked about an alliance with Raijor Dal, but we aim to collaborate with them, AJP, and other regional parties that oppose the BJP's ideology and seek to defeat them."
In a positive development for the party, approximately 300 members from the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) joined Congress in Margherita on Monday.
