Ganga Expressway: The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) announced on August 25 that 89% of the Ganga Expressway project is now complete. According to their progress report, the Earth Work and Clearing and Grubbing in the Main Carriageway have reached full completion, while the Granular Sub-Base is 96% finished. A total of 1,489 structures have been built, contributing to the overall progress of 89%. The construction of this fully access-controlled expressway commenced from NH 334 in Meerut and will extend to Prayagraj.
The Ganga Expressway, once completed, is expected to significantly improve connectivity within Uttar Pradesh. Spanning 594 km, it will become the longest expressway in the state, with a construction cost exceeding Rs. 36,200 crore.
This six-lane expressway, which can be expanded to eight lanes, begins at Bijoli village in Meerut and concludes at Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj. All structures along the route are designed for an eight-lane width. The expressway features a fully access-controlled design and will implement a closed toll system.
It will traverse through key districts including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj, enhancing connectivity across these major areas. Furthermore, the Ganga Expressway will facilitate direct high-speed access from the National Capital Region to Meerut and subsequently to Prayagraj.
By providing an all-weather, high-speed access-controlled route, the expressway aims to alleviate congestion on existing roads, thereby improving the travel experience for commuters and enabling quicker movement of goods and people.
Additionally, a 3.5 km airstrip will be constructed along the expressway in Shahjahanpur to support emergency take-offs and landings for Air Force aircraft. An industrial corridor is also planned along the expressway, which is expected to stimulate industrial growth, trade, agriculture, and tourism in the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur on December 18, 2021. The project reflects the Prime Minister's vision to enhance connectivity across the nation.
During the foundation ceremony, PM Modi emphasized that the development of farmers in Uttar Pradesh and the rapid growth of traders and entrepreneurs are closely linked to improved connectivity. He noted that projects like the Bundelkhand Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, and the Ganga Expressway will not only enhance connectivity in UP but also create numerous job opportunities.
