Arsenal deadline day wildcard transfer scenario amid multiple exits for Mikel Arteta

Arsenal have been busy customers across the summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta has seen a whopping seven new faces arrive at the club, with Eberechi Eze the latest addition from Crystal Palace.

But it appears as if the Gunners are not done just yet, with Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie said to be on his way to the Emirates Stadium today.

The 23-year-old's move depends on whether Jakob Kiwior completes a move to FC Porto, which looks increasingly likely.

But should all things fail with Kiwior, it remains to be seen whether Arteta goes back into the market for another defensive option.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is also said to be on the verge of leaving the club, with the Ukrainian international wanted by Marseille.

That could leave sporting director Andrea Berta with a decision to make heading into the final few hours, especially given William Saliba's injury against Liverpool.

Cristhian Mosquera performed well on his debut, but the Gunners have always somewhat felt defensively frail at the back, and that could cause for concern.

Ben White and Riccardo Calafiori have often struggled with their own injury issues, and a wildcard option could be the move at the Emirates Stadium.

Teenage Real Sociedad centre-back Jon Martin has been monitored in recent months, according to Mail Sport.

Martin has been a regular for Spain at Under-19 level, featuring heavily at the UEFA Under-19 European Championships this summer.

The 19-year-old has also played 19 times for Soicedad's first team already, showing his age beyond his years with a string of solid displays in La Liga.

If Arsenal's move for Hincapie does collapse, we wouldn't put it past them to attempt a late move for Martin, especially given his pedigree.

Mosquera's addition proves Arteta is a fan of players who have already tested themselves in Spanish football, and the Sociedad man would be available for around €8m (£6.9m), as per Transfermarkt.
