WhatsApp Security Alert: CERT-In has warned of a serious security flaw in WhatsApp. iOS and macOS users have been advised to update the app immediately. Know how to avoid this cyber threat
CERT-In, the cybersecurity agency of the Government of India, has issued a high-risk security advisory for WhatsApp users. This warning is regarding the WhatsApp version running on iOS and macOS, in which a serious technical flaw has been found. Taking advantage of this flaw, cyber attackers can access sensitive data without the user's permission.
Danger increased due to a flaw in the linked device handling
According to CERT-In, this flaw arises due to incorrect synchronization of messages in WhatsApp's linked device feature. Attackers can take advantage of this weakness and force the device to process URLs that can be dangerous by deceit. This can leak the user's private conversations and confidential information.
Which versions are at risk?
WhatsApp for iOS: Versions before 2.25.21.73
WhatsApp Business for iOS: Before 2.25.21.78
WhatsApp for Mac: Before 2.25.21.78
Users using these versions have been advised to update the app immediately.
Threat of double attack: Case related to Apple platform flaw
CERT-In also said that this flaw can take an even more dangerous form in combination with Apple's platform vulnerability named CVE-2025-43300. In such cases, the attacker has many ways to access user data.
What to do to stay safe?
First update WhatsApp to the latest version
Avoid clicking on unknown links
Be cautious before opening suspicious messages or files
Meta has not yet made any public statement on this issue, but usually the company releases updates quickly in such cases.
Do not ignore security updates
This warning once again proves that even popular messaging apps can have security flaws. Users should keep updating the app from time to time and be aware of cyber security.
