Delhi is currently facing a serious flood crisis. On 6 September 2025, the water level of the Yamuna River was recorded at 205.91 meters, which is 0.58 meters above the danger mark (205.33 meters). This means that the water of the Yamuna has crossed the danger limit and many low-lying areas have been flooded. The report of the Central Water Commission shows that Yamuna still remains in a severe flood situation.

The situation is worrying in many parts of the capital like Mayur Vihar, Kashmiri Gate, Akshardham, Uttam Nagar, Jahangirpuri and Mukherjee Nagar. People have been given temporary shelter by putting up tents in many areas on the banks of Yamuna. More than 70 families are now living in tents on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Talking about rain, this year Delhi has received 52 percent more rain than the average, due to which the water level of Yamuna is continuously increasing. What to do if flood water has come near your house?

In many areas of Delhi, water has entered inside the houses. Especially in those places which are in low-lying areas or near drains. If you also live in such an area, then some important steps and helpline numbers can be very useful for you.

1. If water has started filling in your house, then immediately shift with the family to a higher and safer place.

2. If water has come in the house, then turn off the electrical appliances and cut off the power supply from the main switch, so that there is no risk of electric shock.

3. Keep your essential medicines, identity card (Aadhaar, PAN etc.), mobile charger, power bank, some clothes and food items ready in a bag.

4. Mosquitoes increase due to waterlogging, which poses a risk of diseases. In such a situation, use mosquito net and keep the body covered.

1. If you are trapped in any disaster like flood, or someone needs immediate relief and rescue, then call Delhi Government's disaster management helpline 1077. This is a 24x7 helpline, that is, you can call it at any time. Whether someone needs temporary shelter, food and water, or rescue operation is needed at any place, help can be obtained by calling this number.

2. If your area is flooded, sewer is overflowing, or water drainage has stopped, then you can call Delhi Jal Board's helpline 1916. This helpline is for problems like waterlogging, sewerage blockage, and tank overflow. After calling, you will get a reference number through SMS, through which you can track what action is being taken on your complaint. 3. If there is waterlogging in your area, road is broken, drains are open, cleaning is not being done, garbage has accumulated, or street light is not working, then you can register all these complaints by calling 311. Number 311 works like a complaint portal, from where your complaint is sent to NDMC, MCD, PWD, Jal Board or the concerned department. Apart from this, some municipal corporations also have 311 apps, through which you can complain by sending photos.
