With the start of the Autumn, you can feel a nip in the air that brings a light fragrance about the change in the weather. September is the month of many firsts, but there isone insect that is predominantly visible in every corner of the homes in the country.

September is often known as the "peak month" for spiders with insects on the move across the UK homes. From larger spiders to tiny ones, these insects are seen crawling on your floors, walls and around the surfaces. However, an expert has suggested using one item that can deter the spiders from coming to your house.

PestUK explained: "There seems to be so many spiders in our homes during the autumn - and they seem bigger. This is because it's their mating season, which begins in early September and finishes mid-October. During mating season, male spiders come out of hiding to look for a mate."

According to the experts from ageags, there is one thing that spiders really hate and home owners can take advantage of it. Putting a garlic around the corners of your house will instantly keep the spiders away as the insect hate the smell of it.

It is believed that the spiders cannot tolerte the strong scent of the garlic and hence would avoid the places where it is placed.

However, the experts suggested using a spray made of garlic in case the homeowners are not willing to make their houses smell like garlic all the time.

They said: "It's not just vampires that hate garlic. Spiders do, too. This may not work for everyone, as no one wants their home to smell too garlicky. Put several whole or crushed cloves into a water spray and use it sparingly in corners where you've seen spiders."

The Garlic Farm shared the way to make the spray and said: "To make a natural garlic pesticide spray, begin by peeling the cloves from an entire head of garlic and blending them with 235 ml of water until smooth. This typically takes about a minute. If you don't have a blender, you can finely chop or crush the garlic by hand and mix it thoroughly with the water. Next, add 700 ml more water and 30 ml of liquid soap to the mixture, blend again, and pour it into a clean jar.

"Let the mixture steep for at least 12 hours or overnight to allow the garlic's sulphur compounds to infuse the liquid. After steeping, strain the mixture using a muslin cloth or fine mesh strainer to remove any solid bits that could block your spray bottle. Transfer the garlic-infused liquid into a reusable spray bottle and keep it refrigerated between uses.

"To apply, spray your plants in the evening from a distance of 15-30 cm, ensuring both sides of the leaves are evenly coated. Use the spray every few days during infestations or once a week as a preventative measure, especially after rainfall."
