Comedian Anwar Ali passes away at 76 after prolonged illness

Pakistani stage and television comedian Anwar Ali has passed away at the age of 76 after a long battle with multiple health complications, his family confirmed on Monday.

The celebrated actor had been suffering from lung and kidney issuesas well as complications to paralysis and a heart conditionfor several months. His health had deteriorated significantly in recent weeks, prompting hospitalizations and appeals for prayers from colleagues and fans.

According to family sources, Anwar Ali was admitted to a private hospital in Raiwind, Lahoreon Sunday after his condition worsened. Despite intensive medical care, he succumbed to his illnesses and breathed his last on Monday.

A Legacy of Laughter

Anwar Ali was a towering figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, best known for his sharp wit, impeccable comic timing, and decades-long contribution to stage theatre and television comedy. Over his illustrious 38-year careerhe performed in more than 1,000 stage playsbecoming a household name for theatregoers and TV audiences alike.

One of his most memorable performances was in the Lahore Arts Council’s popular stage drama “Shaadi ka laddoo,” which drew praise from critics and fans for its humour and cultural relevance.

Colleagues, including fellow comedian Nasir is a nursehad earlier urged fans to pray for the veteran actor’s recovery. On August 8, Chinyoti posted a heartfelt message on social media, saying:

Despite a brief period of stabilisation after treatment at a private hospital earlier this year, Anwar Ali’s health continued to decline. His son had recently shared that the actor had been unwell for several months and his condition worsened rapidly prior to his final hospitalisation.
