A Historic Collaboration

After a gap of 46 years since their collaboration in the 1979 film 'Alavuddinum Athbutha Vilakkum', Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth are set to reunite for a new project directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Lokesh is expected to begin work on this highly anticipated film right after he wraps up the sequel to 'Coolie', which will feature Aamir Khan alongside Rajinikanth.

Kamal Haasan reminisced about their friendship, recalling a conversation where Rajinikanth expressed that if they were to collaborate, he would prefer not to direct, leaving that choice to either Kamal or another director. He noted, 'It would be quite interesting to do a film with him.'

A Bond Forged in Cinema

Reflecting on their long-standing friendship and professional rivalry, Kamal Haasan shared, 'I’d do anything he asks me to, no question of refusing him.' Both actors began their careers from humble beginnings, with Rajinikanth working as a bus conductor while aspiring to act, and Kamal starting as a clapper boy.

They both lacked familial connections in the film industry but were guided by their mentor, K. Balachander. Together, they have collaborated on approximately ten films, many of which were successful, despite some failures.

Kamal also mentioned that he has taken on guest roles in Rajinikanth's films, highlighting the intertwined nature of their careers. Initially, both actors were often cast as villains, but Kamal eventually shifted to Malayalam cinema, while Rajinikanth's villainous roles gained popularity. Kamal returned to Tamil cinema, and they both rose to prominence together.

Rajinikanth once acknowledged that although he is four years older, Kamal is his senior in the industry, and he values Kamal's advice regarding potential collaborations.
