Author Kellie Finlayson, wife of former Port Adelaide star Jeremy Finlayson, has reacted to social media speculations that she has actually been healthy and well, despite living with stage four bowel cancer. Hitting back at trolls this week, Finlayson, on Instagram, said that she understands that she looks well and she does it on purpose. “I am the queen of tricking my own mind into believing it too,” she also said.
“Also fam, not that I should need to confirm this but I am very much still living with a stage four diagnosis and in the thick of active treatment,” the author wrote on her Instagram story, according to Daily Mail UK.
Further revealing about her battle with cancer, the author said that she goes through, “Daily chemotherapy on top of three weekly infusions, with a side of surgery here and there.” The 29-year-old went public with her stage-four diagnosis of bowel cancer in 2021 just a few months after giving birth to her daughter, according to news.com.au.
According to the Jodi Lee Foundation, Bowel cancer usually affects the large bowel, which is made up of the colon and rectum. That’s why you might also hear bowel cancer referred to as colorectal or colon cancer. Most bowel cancers are thought to develop from a type of polyp called an adenoma – benign tumors that form in the lining of the bowel that can become malignant over time, often many years.
Reacting to trolls who are reportedly floating theories about her health on social media, Finlayson, who is also an ambassador for the Jodie Lee foundation - a not-for-profit dedicated to helping to raise awareness about bowel cancer, said, ‘I’ve heard so much noise and read so many misleading comments lately that suggest I’ve been, quote, “fine” for over 18 months now,” according to Daily Mail UK.. “While I understand that I look well, I do that on purpose. I am the queen of tricking my own mind into believing it too,” she added.
“I show up on here in all of my hats, I’m a mum, wife, author, keynote speaker, teacher, advocate and of course, living with cancer. It’s not, and never has been, the only part of me. I’ve never let it consume me entirely and while the beginning was a little scarier, I’m still very much in the exact same position,” she continued. Finlayson then added a note at the bottom of her story.
She has told users on social media 'to be kind’ as she issued a reaction to all the speculations around her health amid her battle with the deadly disease. “Reminder today, to be kind and unassuming.” According to media reports, in 2022, scans revealed that Finlayson's cancer had spread to her lungs.
She has been open about her treatment over the years and later underwent thoracic surgery to treat the cancer. She is quite active across social media and regularly shares details about her family life and treatment and has garnered over 73, 000 followers on Instagram.
