Kathmandu: Horror stories are pouring in from Nepal as the ‘Gen Z revolution’ intensified on the second day.

In one of the most pathetic incidents, former Nepal Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s wife was virtually burnt alive as their house was set on fire by violent protesters on Tuesday.

Rabi Laxmi Chitrakar, who was at home when a mob attacked the house, sustained severe burn injuries.

According to Nepali outlet Khabar Hub, family members said Chitrakar was taken to Kirtipur Burn Hospital in critical condition, but succumbed to her injuries.

Former PM Deuba & wife, the foreign minister, assaulted

Another former Prime Minister barely survived as Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife Arzu Rana Deuba, the Foreign minister, were assaulted by a mob.

Demonstrators broke into the residence of Deuba in Kathmandu’s Budanilkantha area, and brutally beat them up. Video footage shows the ex-PM bleeding from his face in the aftermath of the attack.

Army personnel arrived in the nick of time to rescue Deuba and Arzu.

Gen Z protesters, mostly youths of Nepal including school and college students, have been giving vent to their ire since Monday after the government banned 26 social media platforms including Facebook, X and YouTube.

Despite the government revoking the ban on Monday night, the protests continued for a second day, taking an even more violent and deadly form.

Angry mobs set on fire major government and political landmarks across Nepal, including Singh Durbar, the central administrative complex in Kathmandu, and Sheetal Niwas, the Presidential residence.

Protesters also targeted the houses of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who resigned earlier today, and former premiers Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Sher Bahadur Deuba. Several ministers’ homes were also torched.

Finance minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel was chased down by a group of angry demonstrators on Kathmandu’s streets and assaulted in public.
