The shooting at Evergreen High School happened shortly after noon, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. The school is situated in Evergreen, 28 miles southwest of Denver, at 29300 Buffalo Park Road. According to JeffCo emergency communications, there have been reports of "an active assailant in the area of Evergreen High School."

At least two students have been shot, according to the sheriff's office. Three students are in critical condition at St. Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood, according to the hospital.

Officials asserted hat they had engaged and neutralized the shooting suspect, reported The Independent. Since it is still regarded as an active scene, the campus is still under lockdown, and authorities are presently sweeping the campus.

County emergency officials posted on social media that Bergen Meadow Elementary School, located at 1928 Hiwan Drive, has been designated as a site for parent-student reunification. The Evergreen Lakehouse will serve as a media staging area.

Authorities asked people who have students at the school not to go straight to the school right now because the scene is still active. Shortly after 1:50 p.m., Wilmot Elementary School, which is nearby, was also put on lockdown.

According to a teacher, some students are in a room at the school and they are under lockdown, as per a report by CBS.

Around 1:30 p.m., the school district announced that a reunification center would be situated at 1928 S. Hiwan Dr., Bergen Meadow Elementary School. Students were seen leaving the school in single file as of 1:45 p.m.


In a statement issued on Wednesday, Governor Jared Polis stated, ""I am closely monitoring the situation at Evergreen High School, and am getting live updates. State Troopers are supporting local law enforcement in responding to this situation. Students should be able to attend school safely and without fear across our state and nation. We are all praying for the victims and the entire community."
