Types Of Gold: 24 carat gold is considered the purest. But 22 carats is the most popular in India, but have you ever wondered why gold is available only in 18, 22, or 24 carats, why not in 19, 21?

Types of Gold: Gold has had a special place in Indian culture for centuries. The shine of gold jewelry in weddings, festivals, and religious rituals makes every occasion more special. Gold is important not only as jewelry but also as an investment.

But when it comes to the purity of gold, we often hear words like 18, 22, or 24 carats. After all, what are these carats, and why are they limited to these standards?

Carat is the unit of measuring the purity of gold. 24 carat gold is 100% pure, that is, no other metal is mixed in it.

But pure gold is very soft, due to which it is mixed with metals like copper, silver or zinc to make it suitable for jewelry. This is the reason why options like 18 carat (75% pure) and 22 carat (91.67% pure) are available in the market.

22 carat gold is 22 parts pure gold and 2 parts other metal. That is, about 92 percent pure. 18 carat has 18 parts pure gold, that is, 75 percent pure.

It is stronger, so it is used in fashionable designed jewelry. 24 carat is suitable only for coins, jewelry cannot be made from it.

But the question is why 19, 21 or 25 carat gold is not made, then let us tell you that in India BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) only accepts 14, 18, 22 and 24 carats.

Hallmarking is allowed in 14, 18 and 22 carat gold jewellery. Hallmark is a quality certificate issued by BIS which guarantees the purity of gold in a certain jewellery.
